Let’s Get Physical

Our physical condition and health can certainly affect how we feel spiritually, mentally and emotionally. Some physical conditions are out of our control, so for now, I will discuss the conditions that we can control. We can control how we take care of our bodies. We have control over the types of food we eat and whether or not we exercise and subsequently our weight. Of course body type and weight are also impacted by our genes, which are out of our control.

I certainly feel better all around after eating a healthy meal as opposed to an all fried dinner or packing myself full of sweets. I feel better about myself when I am at my optimal weight and am exercising. I am happier looking at myself in the mirror with fifteen percent body fat as opposed to thirty percent. I am not saying that we can’t be fat and happy but for me and many other people that I have heard express themselves in regards to this matter, thinner feels better and is better for our health, according to medical professionals. I spent many years eating low fat, healthy foods. I learned about what types of foods I was putting in my body, proteins, carbohydrates, and so on. My diet is not presently nearly as strict but I do watch what I eat. I watch it repeatedly go from my hand to my mouth …just kidding. However, I am not a nutritionist or a doctor, and this is a broad topic, so I suggest seeking professional help or you could educate yourself, the choice is yours.

Exercise has many medical benefits as well as emotional and mental benefits. When we exercise our bodies release endorphins which promote a feeling of well being, a sort of natural high. I would suggest reading the following linked articles on the Mayo Clinic website and on WebMD that explain the many benefits of exercise. After reading these articles, I don’t know how you wouldn’t want to begin exercising right away :) I grew up in a home where physical fitness was a part of life so I learned the basics at a young age. If you need help learning how to exercise properly, again, I suggest you seek the help of a professional trainer or doctor.

So, learn to take care of your bodies. Proper diet and exercise should almost definitely leave you feeling better about life and yourselves, making it that much easier to be happy.
