I believe it was Albert Einstein who defined insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Come on, admit it… you can relate to this, can’t you? Don’t panic, this post is not intended to determine whether or not you’re insane, but according to Mr. Einstein, we all may be a little crazy

Are You in Control?

As I touched on in the post titled Letting Go, we become afraid at the thought losing what we possess or of not getting what we want. In other words, when we don’t get our way we become afraid or upset in some way. So, what might you do when you find yourself in such a situation? Do you smile and accept the way things are or do you try to control the situation or other people so that you can keep what you have or get what you want? Which way do you think might bring you peace and happiness? Read more…

Fellowship
Many people, who believe in a Higher Power, chose to belong to a particular church or church group. There are others who are recovering alcoholics who choose to belong to a twelve step recovery group. Still there are others, who need help with gambling or over-eating who choose to seek help from the appropriate twelve step program or other support groups. And there are still others who suffer from terminal diseases or the loss of a loved one who belong to a corresponding help group. Are you beginning to see the pattern here? Read more…

Too Miserable To Be Happy
So, are you too miserable to be happy? This may sound funny to some but I’m guessing that there are people out there who understand this all too well. There are times that you may be in a state of such tremendous negativity that it’s almost impossible for anyone or anything to positively influence you. Can anyone relate to this? Read more…

We Need Each Other

I was reminded this weekend of something I learned a long time ago. That being around other people is good and necessary for my spirit and to be happy. I very much enjoy writing and maintaining this and my wife’s blog. However, sitting in front of computers alone, for up to twelve hours a day, every day, can be socially limiting. This has only been happening for a short time due to career changes, so I caught it early. Now it’s up to me to make the necessary changes to maintain my spiritual condition and happiness. Read more…

Some Can’t, Some Won’t
As much as I would love for the information on this site to help everyone who reads it, unfortunately, there will be those who cannot or will not sincerely put forth the effort necessary to be happy, healthy and at peace. Despite all of the positive information on this site, there will be those who will focus on the reasons why these principles will not work for them as opposed to why they can. Whether they are ignorant to their own misery or they are still holding on to their self-righteous ways, there are those unhappy people who just don’t seem to be able to change. Read more…

Pure Awareness
We all have thoughts and feelings, positive, negative, pleasant, unpleasant and everything in between. Let’s say for example, you have a pleasant thought followed by the corresponding pleasant feeling. What is it exactly that is feeling pleasant? I’m not a doctor so let’s keep this simple and say that all of this happens in your brain. What is it then that is aware that these thoughts and feelings arise and cease in your brain? Is your brain aware that it thinks and feels? Can your brain be aware of itself or is there another form of awareness, consciousness or soul that does not exist in the brain? Are you in your brain? Resentment

I once heard resentment described as “setting yourself on fire, hoping the smoke bothers the other person”. This metaphor has since helped me put resentments in perspective. It’s bad enough that someone may have committed an injustice against us, now we’re going to let them continue to harm us by allowing our resentment against them to fester within ourselves? Read more…

This Too Shall Pass
“This Too Shall Pass” is an old adage of which many of you have surely heard before. But do you live by it? These four words put together in such an order can mean so much to us in our quest for peace and happiness. This saying doesn’t necessarily apply to all challenging situations that we may be experiencing, but more so to our thoughts and feelings associated with those situations. But remember, the good times pass as well. Read more…

Simple, Not Easy
I suggest, in more than one instance on this site, that being happy is a simple matter and that the principles described here on Happiness Help, are usually quite simple. Sometimes so simple, that you may over complicate the matter and miss the simple point. But, let me make something clear…simple and easy are not necessarily the same thing. Read more…
